Sowing the seeds of learning...

Forest School

At Cranham, we LOVE to be outdoors and we love to be part of our community!

"Pupils develop curiosity, a love of learning and appreciate God’s wonderful world through exploration and use of local resources and places....The Forest School area, school field and scout facilities enable pupils to work and play together and learn how to look after the environment."

(SIAMS Report 2023)

Our setting here at Cranham is so wonderful, and we are passionate about getting outside to enjoy, and help to care for, the world that we have been given.

Forest School takes place on Wednesday afternoons, just down the lane in our local woods and the surrounding environment. The children come to school dressed in warm/waterproof clothes and shoes and the whole afternoon is spent outdoors. Our Forest School leader and teachers carefully design the learning to complement each class's current topic.

The teachers use the area’s rich nature, landscape and history to inspire the children, and the fresh air is very good for their health. (parent)

Beech Class Fun

Working with Mrs. Hodges is always fun during Outdoor Learning. The children enjoy learning about keeping safe during outdoor sessions and exploring the nature and history of our area of outstanding natural beauty.

Forest School Adventures in KS2

In Key Stage 2 we enjoy exploring and investigating our wonderful outdoors to develop resilience, confidence and team work. We learn new skills and direct our own learning as we learn to manage our own safety in different ways.
