Outdoor Learning

At Cranham, we LOVE to be outdoors and we love to be part of our community!

Our setting here at Cranham is so wonderful, and we are passionate about getting outside to enjoy, and help to care for, the world that we have been given.

Outdoor learning takes place every Wednesday afternoon just down the lane in our local woods - each class gets a turn every third week. The children come to school ready-dressed in warm/waterproof clothes and shoes and the whole afternoon is spent out in the woods. Our Forest School leader carefully designs the learning to complement each class's current topic.

The teachers use the area’s rich nature, landscape and history to inspire the children, and the fresh air is very good for their health. (parent)

Outdoor learning kit:

  • long sleeves (no bare arms)
  • trousers (no bare legs)
  • covered shoes (or wellies if wet)
  • waterproof jacket

Winter extras:

  • layers
  • warm waterproof coat
  • hat, gloves and scarf
We love how the teachers make use of the beautiful surroundings with outdoor learning. (parent)

Beech Class Fun

Working with Mrs. Carlyle is always fun during Outdoor learning. The children enjoy learning about keeping safe during outdoor sessions and exploring the nature around Boot Camp.
