Sport at Cranham

Here at Cranham C of E Primary School, we involve ourselves in sporting opportunities as often as possible to help develop the courage and compassion of our children.

These are always well supported by our strong Cranham community. From inter-school tournaments, to new sport taster-sessions, we hope to inspire all of our children to adopt a healthy and active way of life.

In 2023-24, we will be involved in several extra-curricular sporting opportunities:

  • KS2 tag rugby tournament
  • Whole school circus training
  • KS2 cross-country running
  • Whole school country dancing festivals
  • KS1 multiskills tournament
  • KS2 swim galas
  • KS1 dodgeball festival
  • KS2 dodgeball festival
  • KS2 dance festival

We also provide access to a variety of sports across the year through our after-school clubs:

  • Multiskills
  • Atlas dodgeball
  • Atlas tennis
  • Country dancing
  • Rugby coaching
  • Cricket coaching
  • Moring run

Our visit form Jack Rutter - GB Paralymian

It was such an inspiration to meet Jack and to hear his story of sporting success followed by tragedy, followed by immense hard work leading finally to success again. We learnt how anything can be overcome through determination, courage and self-belief - it just takes the right mindset.

Jack put us all through some gruelling circuit training (the teachers found it the hardest!) He also helped us raise lots of money for new sports equipment for our school. Thank you Jack!

Sports Afternoons

We gather together as a community at least once a year to participate in a sports afternoon at our local cricket club.

All of our children, from EYFS to Year 6, participate in multiple events, making both staff and parents incredibly proud of their efforts. Our older children support our younger children wonderfully - this is a real opportunity for our 'Buddy' system to shine with our Y6 pupils taking such responsibility for their Reception counterparts.

KS2 Football Tournament Report

Children from Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 took part in a Stroud-wide football tournament on Wednesday 19th October, making the first competitive appearance of the year.

We were placed in a very strong group. Our first game saw us win 2-0 against Longley, James and Leo with the goals.

Our second opponent was Callowell. We showed great courage, but lost 3-0 (our only loss of the day and against the eventual winners).

Game 3 was a huge derby between us and our local neighbours, The Croft. The highly competitive game was enjoyed by all, and ended in a 0-0 draw.

Our final game of the day was against Bisley Blue Coat. We ran away 2-0 winners, with Freddie bagging a brace.

The children involved were exemplary and a real credit to the school.
