St James the Great Church, Cranham
Our extra classroom!
Pupils use the local church to learn about places of worship in Christianity. Meeting at church for services and at times of remembrance draws the community together.... Church members maintain strong links with the school and they ensure physical and spiritual support.
(SIAMS Report 2023)
We are lucky to have a very strong link with our local church, which is situated just down the lane. Pupils use the church to learn about Christianity and as an extra classroom space. Meeting at church for services and at times of remembrance draws our community together.
We hold a termly school service here, and visits to the church form part of our Spirituality programme and RE Curriculum.
We are supported by our vicar, Rev. Sarah, and our governor, Rev. Helen who leads worship regularly in school. We plan to continue to build on the strong links we already have with the Diocese.

What do SIAMs say about our links with the church?
The school has excellent relationships with the church, local community and the diocese, with governors in particular accessing training in their role as governors of a church school. This has led to the recent introduction of an ‘ethos committee’ which feeds back on the impact of the school’s Christian distinctiveness to the full governing body. The church is regularly used to celebrate the main Christian festivals and through these services pupils are becoming more familiar with Anglican traditions.
