PE Implementation: How we teach and learn...

Our technical objectives focus on the development of technique within a given skill. For example, ‘I can point at my target when throwing overarm’.

At Atlas Sports, we focus on developing children tactically. Our small-sided games - through EYFS, KS1 and KS2 - place a huge emphasis on independent and team-led enquiry when developing tactics to outwit opponents.

At Atlas Sports we aim to get children active for at least 80% of their physical education lessons. This is fundamental underpinning of any successful PE lesson. When assessing, we use objectives such as ‘I can keep going when I get tired’.

In the creation of a well-rounded sports performer, we would expect to see empathy, the ability to work well as part of a team, and oodles of etiquette.

The physical education national curriculum for KS1 and KS2, along with the ‘Development Matters’ framework for EYFS, outline the minimum content children should experience in PE at primary school. We took this guidance and created their ‘I Can’ statements and Pillars of PE to include each part of all curriculum areas in abundance throughout our schemes of work. Each scheme of work has ‘I Cans’ that are linked directly to the national curriculum.

Developed by experts, our EYFS, KS1 & KS2 schemes of work focus on ensuring children are kept super active, through the use of small sided games, and fast paced activities. Each of our 50+ topics comes fully loaded with 6 weeks' worth of exciting content.

Every single one of our schemes focusses on developing the 'whole child'. We have taken into consideration the key developmental areas, and as a result, our lesson plan's success criteria revolves around our 4 Pillars of PE: Technical, Tactical, Physical and Personal and Social.
